Starter Creatures

A starter in Creatures of Sonaria is not “the species the tutorial forced.” It is any body you can feed, hide, and adult while you still peek at getting started. Shop rotations and trial lists change. The filters do not. This page is those filters plus examples of roles that keep showing up as kind first hours. For letter grades, use the beginner tier list. For combat names, stay off the PvP list until you have a stored adult.

Filter 1: diet you can see

If you cannot point at food thirty seconds after sniff, the species is not a starter. Photovores want light and water. Herbivores want plants and mushroom piles you will trip over in redwoods and ponds. Omnivores can panic-eat either. Carnivores want carcasses that other players also want. Photo-carnivores and other hybrids are intermediate kits.

Open the diet checklist and pick a row you can execute on your current map knowledge. Then pick a species that matches the row, not a silhouette you liked in a thumbnail.

Filter 2: mobility that matches your courage

Land small is the default classroom. Bushes hide you. You will still get grabbed. You will understand the HUD.

Aquatic herbivore or omnivore is the AFK classroom. Deep water reduces some land KoS. Surface time is when you die.

Simple flier is optional week-two content. Takeoff stamina and tree collisions wipe more beginners than bites. Gliders are not starters. They ground themselves and then meet shredders.

Huge land is a billboard. Skip it.

Filter 3: replaceable

Trials that cost tens of Shooms are better teachers than a weekly you traded your only stack for. If the trial is a huge carnivore, it still fails filter 1. If the trial is a small plant-eater, buy it, die, buy it again, and learn. How to get Shooms will refill a 50-mush mistake. It will not refill a panic gacha.

Nested babies are starters too. If a friend offers an egg, read how to nest and treat the baby as a rental with trait potential, not as your only save file.

A starter session

  1. Create the species on the main menu. Female if you want to nest later; male is fine for learning.
  2. Spawn, press K, sniff, drink, hide scent. The controls page is the key list.
  3. Stay in one biome until satiated. Then complete a regional mission set if it does not cross a highway.
  4. Adult with how to grow. Store. That stored adult is roster progress toward Trade Realm’s ten-species door.
  5. Redeem codes on the menu. Do not spend a growth token on a species you have not fed once by hand.

If you hated the body, change diet or mobility, not just paint. Paint is a plushie and palette conversation. Survival is a food conversation. Starters exist so the rest of the creatures hub is optional reading instead of an emergency.

When three stored adults feel boring, you graduated. Pick a harder kit on purpose from the tier list hub and accept that you will die with more style. Until then, the best starter is the one still breathing.

A last habit that saves restarts: after you store the adult, stay on the main menu long enough to redeem whatever still works on the codes hub and to check whether Trade Realm has unlocked. Ten stored species is a long project if every first pick is a huge carnivore you cannot feed. Two humble adults and a cheap trial teach the map faster than one painted weekly you are afraid to move. If a friend offers a nest, take the baby as extra practice, then return to a body you already know how to keep satiated.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers players ask after a wipe, a death, or a new event.

Should I start as a carnivore in Creatures of Sonaria?

Not if you still miss sniff. Meat is contested. Plants and photovore kits teach the HUD with fewer arguments.

Are free tutorial creatures good enough?

Yes, if their diet is visible. Replace them with a trial herbivore or photovore if the tutorial body is a huge fighter.

How many starters should I store?

At least one land and one water adult. That pair teaches the map and counts toward Trade Realm.
