Creatures of Sonaria Getting Started

A first-session route from creature creation to a stored juvenile that can actually eat.

Getting Started

Creatures of Sonaria throws a painted kaiju into a map full of players who already know where the water is. Your first job is not PvP and it is not a gacha. Your first job is to understand the HUD, feed the diet you picked, and learn how to leave the world without losing the slot to a grab. This page is that first hour. After it, use how to grow or the beginner tier list instead of wandering into a volcano because it looked pretty on the thumbnail.

Create a creature you can feed

The creation screen asks for species, gender, and paint. Ignore the rarest silhouette if you cannot describe its diet. Photovores and many herbivores forgive a missed carcass. Carnivores need meat and will starve while you learn sniff. Omnivores are flexible but still die if you never press H.

Gender matters later: females place nests, males place territories. For session one, pick whichever default the game gives you and change it later in settings. Paint is cosmetic. A marble material from the codes hub does not add health.

If the roster feels like noise, open starter creatures and pick a small land or aquatic species with a simple appetite. Huge tanks look safe and play like billboards.

The first five minutes in the world

You spawn small. Other players can see you. Do this in order:

  1. Press K and read health, stamina, hunger, thirst, and weight. The controls reference lists the rest of the keys.
  2. Press H to sniff. Food, water, and nearby creatures light up. This is the difference between a living juvenile and a skeleton.
  3. Hold E on the prompt to drink or eat. Herbivores want plants and mushrooms. Carnivores want carcasses; press Y later when you can carry one.
  4. Hold Shift only when you have a reason. Sprint drains stamina you need for a grab escape.
  5. Do not press T to lay down near other players. Laying multiplies incoming damage and blocks your bite.

If weather turns or a tornado warning hits, read how to survive and leave the ridgeline. Session one is allowed to be boring.

Missions, Shooms, and the main menu

Regional missions appear when you enter a biome. They are small: drink, sniff, survive a timer. Finish a set for a Shoom burst, then move. You also earn five Shooms every two minutes while the creature stays alive. That passive tick is why dying to inspect a fight is expensive. Details sit on how to get Shooms.

When you want codes or Trade Realm, you must leave the world. Use the red door on the menu. The live map has no gift box and no trading window. How to redeem codes and how to trade both start from that door.

What to ignore on day one

Skip the expensive gacha until you have ten stored species and a feel for appetite. Skip PvP tier mains such as Korathos until you understand weight and wing shredder from the losing side. Skip mutation grinding until you can adult without a token; mutations will tell you why tokens block the rolls you want.

Do redeem whatever still works on the codes hub. A Partial Growth Token is a seatbelt, not a personality. Save it for a species you already fed successfully once.

A clean first-session checklist

  • Drink and eat from sniff, not from wandering.
  • Survive until the first regional mission set completes.
  • Open K and memorize which bar is thirst versus stamina.
  • Return through the red door, redeem codes, and store the creature if it is still alive.
  • Pick the next species with the diet checklist instead of a random weekly drop.

If you did those five things, you are no longer a tutorial ghost. The next page is how to grow if the slot is healthy, or how to nest if a friend is already offering eggs. Either way, stay off the ground in a KoS server until you can read a health bar at a glance.
