How to Get Mutations

Mutations are why Trade Realm screenshots look radioactive. Most of them are cosmetics: Glimmer, Glowtail, Shadow, seasonal skins. A few change the model enough to matter in a fight (dwarfism and gigantism shift hitbox). Traits are a second system: hexagonal icons, tied to a slot, guaranteed on nested babies at age 66–67 and 100 if they live. Players mash the two words together. This page keeps them apart so you stop token-growing a slot you wanted Glowtail on. The dedicated hex farm is how to get traits. Read how to nest first if you cannot place an egg yet, and how to grow if you cannot sit to adult.

Two mutation clocks

Nesting mutations apply when a baby hatches from another player’s nest. You see them at spawn. They are the only reliable door to some, and they can sit on a slot that later also rolls a growth mutation. Double muts (for example a nesting skin plus Glowtail) are a nest-then-grow project, not a shop button.

Growth mutations roll at age milestones and announce themselves with a popup. Glimmer is the famous one and wants age 100 in current community routes. Glowtail and Shadow are often discussed as adult-timing rolls. Community habit: grow to the milestone, and if the popup never comes, kill or restart the slot and try again. Restarting a mutated death can cost Shooms (commonly cited as a fee to keep the mut). Traits stay without that cosmetic fee.

Tokens block growth mutations. Partial or max growth skips the roll. Use tokens when you are hunting traits on a nested slot and you do not care about Glimmer. Use natural growth when the screenshot is the point.

Traits are glued to the slot

If a nested creature hits 67 and 100 alive, it gets two traits. If you dislike the pair, you cannot reroll by idling. You delete or replace the slot and hatch a new egg. That is why people run two accounts: one female adult that only nests, one main that only hatches. Eggshell and Octroma on the nest side, patience on the hatch side. Twenty to forty eggs is a normal unlucky streak, not a broken game.

Hover icons. Helix-style marks are mutations. Hex cells are traits. If a trader will not let you hover, walk away and reread how to trade.

Plushies and boosts

Octroma doubles the base chance of age and nesting mutations. It does not double traits. It does not stack with a second Octroma. It is an event-shop regular and a Trade Realm staple.

Aerix shortens growth so you can attempt more rolls per hour. Pair Aerix with Octroma when the slot is a mut farm. Pair two Aerix when you only want age and you already have the cosmetics you like.

Seasonal plushies add extra mut pools (Fool’s Gold, Clownfish, blossom variants). They return with events such as Summer Paradise. Buy them with Shooms you can replace using how to get Shooms. Full effect text sits on items and plushies.

Codes sometimes handed Weak Glimmer tokens or palettes. Check the codes hub and do not confuse a palette with a mutation. A Star Rain look is paint. Glimmer is a mut icon.

A grind you can repeat

Growth mut farm: Equip Octroma and Aerix. Play the species you want. Get satiated. Grow without tokens. At the milestone, keep the popup or restart. Private servers are calmer; public servers make satiation and missions easier and deaths more likely.

Trait farm: Nest yourself (or use an alt). Hatch. Grow to 100. Tokens are allowed if you accept no growth mut. Trash the slot if the hex pair is wrong. Do not “just play it anyway” if the whole point was a specific pair; you will lose a week to sunk cost.

Double project: Hatch a nesting mut you like, then grow that same slot naturally with Octroma for a growth mut. This is slow and worth more in Trade Realm than either piece alone.

KoS will grief farms. Hide scent, sit in a pocket from how to survive, and pick a body from starter creatures that can eat without a pilgrimage. Mutations are a patience game wearing a neon coat. The players who look lucky are the players who restarted forty times without spending the token that would have ended the story.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers players ask after a wipe, a death, or a new event.

Do growth tokens stop Glimmer and Glowtail?

They stop growth mutations. If you token-grow, plan on traits or a finished adult, not a new Glimmer popup.

What does Octroma do?

It doubles the base chance of age and nesting mutations. It does not double traits and does not stack with itself.

How do I get two traits for sure?

Be nested, then reach age 67 and 100 without dying. If you die and restart, the guarantee is gone for that slot.
